Malicious buyer receives an expensive comic and claims he received a cheap comic and now wants to return it
I am a South American comic book seller who has been selling on eBay for years, I have excellent ratings and very good feedback from my buyers. I have no negatives.
My comic (expensive Avengers) was for sale on eBay for US 2,000. On Good Friday, April 18, in the evening I receive a purchase offer of US 1,800 and the bidder has a good eBay history, so I decide to accept it that same night. On Monday, April 21, I send the correct comic properly packaged by FedEx. The buyer receives it at his house on April 25. So far, so good. After 12 days, on May 7, I receive a message that there is a problem with the comic received. I ask him what the problem is. He does not reply through eBay. The next day, May 8, I see that the buyer has filed a Return Request saying that he has received the wrong comic and attaches a photo of my open envelope and FedEx bag and a Superman comic of approximately USD 50 that I have never had. I contact the buyer by message and tell him that I sent him the correct comic and attach a photo of my envelope with the comic, as well as the FedEx package already closed. He keeps saying that that is what he received and insists that he wants to return the comic (the Superman one) and that I send him the "correct" comic (Avengers) according to him.
Now with the eBay claim I find that when trying to resolve it there are only two options:
1. Accept the return, pay the eBay return label fee (it will not be possible because I am in South America) or transfer the shipping money to the buyer. Wait for him to send me the cheap comic, give my approval, accept the refund to the buyer and seal this "theft".
2. Directly refund the money and let the buyer keep the comic, likewise accepting this "theft".
3. There are no more options.
In conclusion, eBay does not give any option that supports the seller. Either way I will lose my comic and the money.
I have made a report to eBay about this unscrupulous buyer for Abuse of the "eBay Money Back Guarantee" Policy. I don't know if they will ever reply since 3 days have passed and I have not received any response.
I think that this is a form of scam and abuse by unscrupulous buyers and the worst part is that eBay generally sides with the buyer. I don't know if they realize that this way they facilitate this type of scam.
It is extremely frustrating to be in this situation and that is why I share this unpleasant experience with the community so that somehow eBay listens and modifies these procedures that are too tilted toward the buyer and facilitate this type of malicious actions that harm the honest seller.
Since this is the first time this has happened to me, my question is:
What else can I do about it.
Thank you very much for listening to me and for your responses.
PS: I cannot publish the photos because they contain images of envelopes and packages with personal addresses.
