VAT refund
Good morning, I’ve just received a defective product and I’m going to return it. The product comes from Japan and I have to pay VAT and customs fees. There’s no problem with the return, the seller accepts it and I’m waiting for the label to do it. So far everything seems normal, I think; it’s the first purchase I’ve made through this system. My question is what do I do about the VAT and the fees, who has to pay them since the product is defective? Do I have to pay VAT on an item I’m going to return? I’m not clear about it at all, I hope someone can help me, thanks

Hello @brigante1966,
Thank you for your message. To return an item to the seller, you generally should not have to pay VAT again if you already paid it at the time of purchase. However, in some cases, the carrier may request payment of VAT and import duties when releasing the item from customs. If this happens, you can pay the VAT and then request a refund for the duplicate VAT through eBay.
To request a refund only for the VAT that has been duplicated go here and we will refund you. To request a refund of VAT on a completed order, log in and upload proof of overpayment. We will ask you for the information related to the transaction and you will receive a refund of the VAT you paid twice.
I hope this information is helpful
Best regards,
Cinthia
