A seller scams me, eBay defends him and also deletes my negative feedback for the seller
Hi there,
I’ve been using Ebay for almost 20 years, and several hundred purchases and I had never come across a situation like this.
Because of a seller’s scam, I’ve lost my money, ebay defended him (a seller who sells many thousands of items) and deleted the negative feedback I left so that at least the rest of buyers have the chance to read it,
For anyone who wants to read the full story:
Until now I had felt safe and protected buying on ebay, and at similar prices or even a bit higher I preferred to make the purchase on Ebay because of the security it gave me.
As is normal, (we’re human and we can make mistakes) more than once I had had some little problem with some purchase and, in general, the sellers themselves resolved it and, if need be, ebay also stepped in and everything was sorted out easily.
But all that has changed with one of the last purchases I made, specifically on May 5. At first it gave me an estimated delivery date between May 9 and 14, but the package actually arrived on May 26 (the seller sent it on May 20) it wasn’t something I was in a hurry for, so no problem.
When I opened the package on June 4 (I was working away from home) , I saw that what he sent me had nothing to do with what I bought, so I immediately wrote a message to the seller telling him about the situation.
The seller replies to me: "I’m sorry, I’m going to see what happened".
I politely and trusting him, wait for his response , taking the opportunity to add photos of what I had bought and what he had sent me.
A week later he hasn’t replied, and I insist again asking him how things are, and nothing, he doesn’t answer so on June 19 I start, through ebay, the request for a return, thinking that I was still within my 30-day period (the package arrived on the 26th), but 5 days later I get a message telling me that the return has been canceled and closed with no further explanation of any kind, so I contact ebay (call-back service, and to be fair, they got in touch with me quickly) and they tell me that the return was canceled because the 30-day period had passed since the package was delivered on May 14 and I submitted the request on June 19 .
To which I reply that no, the package was delivered on May 26 not on May 14
From that moment on, I realized that all ebay cared about was defending the seller. the person who was helping me by phone, when I was proving the actual delivery date. my messages with the seller, etc. kept telling me "hold on a moment, I’m going to check" and after checking with their supervisor, all they would say was no, that it didn’t apply, that the 30 days count from the theoretical delivery date not the real delivery date. And since the theoretical date was May 14 and my refund claim was submitted on June 19, I had absolutely no right to claim anything, in their exact words, that I should go to the OCU to complain.
And yes, it is true, (much to my surprise) that eBay’s rules say that the time to return starts counting from the theoretical delivery date, regardless of the actual delivery, but eBay also has in its rules the power to extend that period at their discretion, for cases of very late deliveries, justified reasons, etc. But no, it was all taking out articles and rules against me, nothing to help me, so that was it, I lost my 50 euros.
All that was left for me was to leave negative feedback for this seller explaining the situation, so that it wouldn’t happen to anyone else again. I wrote a simple text in the negative feedback, describing what had happened, without using any rude words, or insults of any kind,
Well, my surprise came a few days later , when I received a message, with an even slightly threatening tone saying that they had removed my feedback for not complying with eBay’s rules, but it doesn’t say which rule I broke, this time they’re not going to do anything to me, but if I do it again they’ll take action........
Anyway, it’s very good that eBay protects its sellers, but you have to be fair, and here it’s very clear that the seller acted in bad faith, since he didn’t even reply to my messages.
I don’t know if ebay realizes that if it has lots of sellers but loses buyers the thing isn’t going to work
Anyway, sorry for the wall of text, but all I had left was the option of a rant.
