Abusive currency exchange
The currency exchange rate that eBay applies is totally abusive. For example, in a buy/sell transaction in US dollars, the exchange rate it applies is 1.11 USD per 1 euro, when the official exchange rate today is 1.16 USD per 1 euro. That amounts to a 5% commission. Under such abusive conditions, it is definitely better to pay in the seller’s original currency (in this case, dollars) using a bank card, since the bank applies the official exchange rate or charges a commission that is significantly lower than the one eBay calculates
