eBay is restricting my account indefinitely as a seller and withholding my funds.
Hello,
I've been an Ebay user for more than 15 years and I have 100% positive feedback. I'm a private seller; most of my activity has been purchases and only a few sales. On 16/02/2024 I made a sale to Sweden of a professional camera valued at approx. 6700 euros. On 17/02/2024 I received a notification from Ebay telling me that my seller account was going to be restricted and that I had to send a series of documents. I sent the documentation and on 22/02/2024 Ebay wrote to me saying that they had restricted my seller account indefinitely and that the restriction would take effect once I received that notice; the item had already been sent to the buyer and was on its way. I take it that this sale is exempt from that restriction since I was notified after the transaction had been made. I try to find out the reasons for my restriction but Ebay tells me that for security reasons that information cannot be provided to me. A few days later the customer receives the camera and leaves a positive review, they are satisfied with the product. In the payments received panel Ebay warns that the payments will be held until 18/03/2024 for security reasons. Today, 18/03/2024, I make sure that I have received the funds but on the Ebay panel it appears that the funds will be held until the account is no longer restricted, overlooking the fact that the account was restricted indefinitely! I contact customer service and they inform me that this is something from the security department and that they cannot give me details, that the funds can be held for a maximum of 170 days. I try to look for information in their policies but in no case do they mention this maximum 170-day hold on funds. I look for information in the forums and I realize that there are cases where people have been trying for years to recover their funds. What can I do? The item was sold because I urgently needed that money for personal reasons and now I don't know when I will receive it, or even if I will receive it. I have never defrauded anyone, I have 100% positive feedback, and Ebay treats me like a criminal without a prior trial, and they don't even inform me of my supposed irregularity. I have thought about showing up in person at Ebay's offices in Madrid, explaining my case and asking for justice, but I was surprised when I saw that about three years ago they closed the Madrid offices and opened them in Ireland, presumably to pay less taxes. What can be done? Is there any association I can turn to? Thank you very much in advance.

·1 year agoThe exact same thing happened to me today, I have almost a 99% positive rating with around 5000 dollars in it, user since 2022, they restricted me saying I had high rates when that's impossible and there's no way to appeal, I need my money in a reasonable timeframe not in six months!!! This is illegal

·1 year agoHi, please, could someone here who went through the same thing I'm going through right now help me by telling me how you managed to solve it? I've been waiting 6 months to be paid 735 euros, and now they're still withholding it indefinitely

·1 year agoHey, now I have exactly the same problem, I patiently waited the 170 days that were up yesterday, so then I decided to send an email, to which I receive this response: "When a user's account is permanently suspended, funds are usually held for 170 days. However, in this case, eBay will hold any unpaid funds indefinitely."
The case is identical, they blocked me without saying anything else, that it was something internal and they couldn't explain why. How did you manage to resolve it, please? Or will I have to go file a police report?

·2 years agoI have a different problem EBAY took the money from my bank to refund the customer. The problem is that EBAY had the customer's money on hold, and the next day that money disappeared. I'm practically giving away my money.!!!

·2 years agoGiving my bank account number to ebay in order to sell, and in fact authorizing it, to carry out these operations, is the reason that made me stop selling here.
I felt tied hand and foot behind my back, I see that you are Italian, undoubtedly you know how this position is defined.
Best regards

·2 years agoI'm in the same boat, I've got almost 4000 euros in limbo, they tell me that within 170 days or more! So they have no intention of paying, has anyone managed to make progress with this issue? The truth is that it's something to get your hands on because if luck strikes your money flies away... Surreal, and on top of that the problem comes now... they take a commission like there's no tomorrow, and on top of that after 30 sales or 2000 euros they send the data to the tax office (that's what I understand), well now that they'll send the data and I haven't received the money, what will happen? Anyway, I hope this ends well with the complaint, which honestly I don't even know how to file, but it looks like it won't be as one expects.

·2 years agoThis is what a user who went through the same thing posted; I posted it before, and I’m posting it again.
Hello everyone, how are you? I wanted to say that I have already received the payment from eBay; as soon as they saw a real complaint, they paid up very quickly. It’s a shame to have to resort to legal action.
I recommend that everyone who is going through the same situation as me take the same action and then send the complaint to lawenforcement@ebay.com.

·2 years agoThe exact same thing just happened to me, and curiously, also with a fairly valuable camera. The answer that they can't tell you which rule you broke seems outrageous to me. And when you tell them you want to make a complaint, they only give you the option of making it internally with them “so that it doesn't happen again in the future,” and they won't even respond to such a complaint.
Have you made any progress? Have you filed a police report?

·2 years agoHere a user wrote that this happened to them and filed a report with the police and sent it to eBay.
Right away, they refunded the funds.
These are two of their tweets.

·2 years agoHi, great suggestion for being an NOT approved mentor. 😂😂
They tried to swindle 2804 € from the other user; this one is an even bigger case, 6700 €.
Also in the other case “HAL 9000”
they even asked the seller for documentation, being a private seller, as also in this case.
Pathetic way to answer we cannot give information about the reason for the restriction, for security reasons that information cannot be provided to me, when it is the person directly subject to the restriction who is asking, which in my opinion is fully within their rights.

·2 years agoThey don’t give information because they don’t know it; that restriction is evidently generated by Hal9000 and they don’t give any more details.
The same thing happened to me, I think I already mentioned it, with a Spanish company but English 😉 apparently.
They declined a payment for me with a card I’ve been paying with for forty years and nobody wanted to tell me, or knew why, not even the finance department; everyone looked at it and said the card was fine.
The same thing happens here, nobody has access to the rejection algorithms.
