The purchase failed, but the bank still charged me.
I tried to make a purchase with my debit card and the purchase failed, I tried again and it failed again, but it turns out the bank had paid twice and on eBay it doesn't show that the purchase went through, but in the banking app it says the transaction is still ''pending'' so I don't have the available balance and therefore not the purchase either.

I’d like to explain what’s happening. These transactions where there is a deduction on your bank statement are not eBay charges, but rather a pre-authorization charge from your banking institution.
Normally, some banks temporarily hold funds when merchants first send the authorization request (when you make the payment on eBay and receive confirmation of your purchase), and funds are also sometimes held when payment for the first authorization request is processed later.
Please note that the second charge may take from a week, or in some cases even a month, to disappear from your account, but it will be removed from your bank statement without you having to take any action, as this is automatic.
To put your mind at ease, you can send a message to your seller and ask whether they have received payment for the transaction; the answer will be that they have not received the payment, and then you’ll know that it is the pre-authorization and not an actual charge, since if the item had been paid for, you would have received an email with the purchase confirmation and it would appear in your purchase history, and that is not the case.
If the pre-authorization charge does not remove itself after a few days, we suggest contacting your bank/financial institution so they can give you an estimated date of when that pre-authorization will be removed from your account, but we are sure that by then, the pre-authorization charge will have been removed from your bank statement.

·11 months agoIn my particular situation I made the purchase of 2 cell phones with a debit card and, like everyone else, it failed. I went to the bank, where they confirmed that the money was indeed deducted and left my savings account (I'm from Colombia). But the purchase doesn't appear.
After that they recommended that if I was going to make purchases, I should do it in dollars and not in Colombian pesos (when it came time to pay, it gave me both options and when it failed the first time, I tried it with Colombian pesos). Based on the above, today I bought a watch in dollars and it was accepted, there was no problem.
I thought that was the problem (the currency) and I tried making the purchase of the 2 cell phones again, but this time with payment in dollars. Well, again the 1,020 dollars were deducted and the purchase was not generated.
They have already deducted 2,040 dollars from my account and no purchase was generated. I am very worried.
From Ebay they told me that the refund takes 5 to 7 days, but they say that "your bank did not approve the transaction and the payment was not processed." (But that's a lie because the money did leave my account).
All that's left for me is to hope that the money I managed to get with a lot of effort won't be lost.
Ebay should fix that problem, it's a very delicate issue!
Explain why that kind of problem happens...

·2 years agoThe same thing just happened to me. I made a purchase, it gave me an error at the time of purchase, but they still debited the money and the purchase process doesn't show up for me

·4 years agoI tried to buy 2 items out of 5 that I won at auction, with a Chilean credit card, the bank deducted the money but on eBay the payment doesn't appear as processed... Any ideas?

·3 years agoHi, I know a lot of time has passed, but did you manage to solve anything? Something similar just happened to me, the Bank debited the purchase but eBay gave an error at the moment of buying. Now it shows up as “purchase in process” with my card.
