They charged me VAT twice
Hello, I bought an item from the USA, and when I paid for it, they charged me $11.34 in VAT, on top of the item price and the corresponding shipping costs.
After it arrived very late and with an open dispute because the package wasn’t arriving, I received the package but to pick it up at the post office they made me pay €11.24 in VAT... suspiciously very similar to the dollars I had already paid in VAT.
But now the order is blocked by eBay because a claim has been filed and I don’t know who I can complain to about my problem now. Because after a few days eBay will say that I have already received the package and will resolve the dispute without consequences. But now the problem is no longer that the package didn’t arrive (it eventually arrived, very late), but that I paid VAT twice and there’s no way to claim that back from anyone...

·2 years agoIndeed, eBay washes its hands of it in case there’s a double VAT charge; today I complained and they reply to you in English that they won’t refund anything. It’s not worth buying on this platform anymore

·2 years agoIt's happened to me too, I’ve complained because I think it’s shameful, we’ll see if they give it back. I’ll write about it in the forum, whatever happens. It’s becoming more and more regrettable to shop on this platform

Does anyone know if this happens with "eBay International Shipping"? Don’t confuse it with the "Global shipping program" which generally, although a bit pricey, takes care of everything and there are no problems.
Is it really so hard to communicate the VAT charge and not cause us these headaches...? If not... just let them leave the option to disable the VAT charge for the seller and we’ll handle it ourselves, knowing from the start!

·2 years agoHello. They charged me VAT when I paid for the item, and Correos also charged me when they delivered the shipment. With the invoice I claimed it from eBay and they refunded it without any problems.

·2 years agoIndeed, with Global Shipping, I never had any problems. With Ebay shipments I had them all; they always charged me VAT twice, and when I complained they told me I couldn't prove that the VAT on that shipment didn't correspond to what I bought. The trick is that when you make the purchase they give you a tracking number, but they change that tracking number when it reaches Europe, so then you've already lost the original reference number and you can't prove anything because on the customs invoice they put the latest tracking number. Ebay keeps 21% of the value of what you bought for nothing. A sweet deal.

Besides that, it charges for something that isn’t theirs and, as it says in its Terms and Conditions, it doesn’t even know whether it exists.

·2 years agoBetween FedEx and eBay they’ve charged me VAT twice, and now neither of them will refund the VAT, especially eBay, which keeps digging its heels in and saying FedEx’s invoice is fake and not valid, so they won’t refund my VAT.
FedEx wouldn’t give me the package if I didn’t pay the VAT again, plus 20 euros in fees for them paying the VAT for me
Now eBay says that invoice from FedEx isn’t valid and that’s why they won’t refund the VAT.
I don’t plan to buy on eBay ever again if I can avoid it, and if they try to make me pay the VAT twice again, they can sort themselves out and send the package back, one and the other.
A bunch of scammers, but in a corrupt country nobody does anything because everyone benefits.......

·2 years agoIn this case, the "corruption" of eBay, as you call it, comes from across the seas.
As you already know, now buyers do not pay sellers, but rather eBay, which has been subrogated into that right of the seller, to collect what it sells.
That's where the problem with VAT comes from.

Sometimes, there’s a lot of distance between what someone says and what they do, so it’s best not to trust promises that may not be kept.

·3 years agoYou've fallen into eBay's clutches; those supposed tax payments they make are not documented in any way. It's most likely that they aren't being sent to the tax authorities. You should report them for tax fraud and scam.

·3 years agoThis always happens to me whenever I buy an international product (except those included in the Global Shipping Program). I don’t understand what purpose it serves for eBay to collect VAT that it then doesn’t handle; it seems absurd to me. I suppose they charge you for it, don’t process it, and if it works, it works. Incompetent and crooks.
