Buyers Who Don't Vote, There Are More and More
They’ve always been there, but before they were just a few who, after several weeks of having received the item, still hadn’t left feedback.
Of those few, if you took the trouble to contact them, most of them would give you the rating that same day and apologize. There were some who complained about something they hadn’t mentioned before but still rated positively anyway, and then there was a percentage who wouldn’t do it بأي way, which I estimate was between 5 and 10%.
Lately things have changed. Now, if you’re lucky, 1 out of every 4 or 5 rates without you having to ask, and of the rest, if you ask politely, 50% will respond and the other half ignore you. Among those who don’t leave feedback after being contacted, a special mention goes to those who, if they reply, say that “everything was fine, thanks” but still don’t rate you, even after insisting, but they don’t give you their positive vote.
For sellers who have dozens or hundreds of sales a week, this can be a minor inconvenience, since they can make do with that 10-20% of ratings, but for those of us who make just a few sales a month, in this situation of declining sales, it can mean having a profile that gives the impression of barely any activity and not looking professional at all.
As with almost everything on this platform, it’s a situation that especially hurts the small or medium-sized seller and keeps getting worse. I hope that if this company doesn’t end up sinking, one day it will implement something as simple as automatically leaving positive feedback on any purchase/sale that, after 60 days, hasn’t been rated by the buyer or seller and hasn’t had any issues. Something as simple as that.

·1 year agoOops, I explained myself badly. I meant that it seems all three scenarios need to be met at the same time for the automatic positive vote to be generated. Otherwise, the voting policy would be well implemented and that, at this point in eBay, would be unimaginable.
On the other hand, the thing about guest accounts is also mentioned, which could account for a small percentage of buyers who leave no rating at all.

·1 year agoThose automatic positive votes are limited, inexplicably, to three possible scenarios, as detailed in the help: "Vote for sellers".
In the profile that blackplanet101's colleague attaches, those automatic votes corresponded to the third case, having fewer than 10 votes at that moment.
For something useful that they update and they limit it that way... Like other people, for years I’ve suggested that automation to them and they implement it in a sneaky way. Anyway, one more among so many, and that’s why eBay is not even a shadow of what it once was and we’re not even waiting for it anymore.

OP1 year agoI don’t know what else can be said about these people.
With this, they confirm that they’re aware of certain shortcomings they have on their platform, but on the other hand it seems that the top priority is still the controlled demolition of the whole setup, or at least doing everything possible to become something different from what they were or what they are, which is pretty much the same thing, but they don’t seem to have a clear idea either of what they want to be... this is a ship adrift.

·1 year agoWell, nothing, we're still the same or worse. Out of 9 sales, I've only received 3 votes.
I'm going to go crazy clicking on "Tell us what you think" and complaining about this issue every time I make a sale and don't receive a vote. We should all do that every time this happens to us.
blackplanet101
OP1 year agoOn a seller's feedback profile, I have noticed what appear to be automatic feedback votes from the platform
For the moment I haven't seen anything similar on my seller profile, does anyone know anything about it?
a5turbo
·1 year agoI'm the same as most people, hardly anyone leaves feedback anymore. I currently have 189 sales that could be more than 225 if everyone had left feedback.
I suppose it won't do any good, but a few days ago and before seeing this I sent an email to Ebay using the "give us your opinion" option that appears on the summary screen, commenting precisely on what's being talked about in this thread.
There would be a very simple solution: if after a reasonable amount of time the seller doesn't leave any feedback and the item has been delivered, an automatic positive feedback should be generated, something similar to what you just put in that screenshot, but that I certainly haven't seen reflected in any sale either. It's a bit strange. Where or from which profile did you get that screenshot?
blackplanet101
OP1 year agoWell, if you've been rated 189 out of 225, you should consider yourself lucky...
The screenshot I posted is of this user
https://www.ebay.es/fdbk/feedback_profile/r.si53?user_context=BUYER
I confirm that I have seen automatic votes like those above on another profile. I also confirm that in none of my sales have I received one of these votes.

OP2 years agoI'll update with my recent experience. Of those who don't vote and I send the message to remind them, maybe 1 in 10 bothers to do it. The lack of consideration that reigns in society is already mind-blowing.
Before, it was a bit of a hassle having to go after them one by one, but at least half would reply; now they just ignore it, and what's alarming is the proportion that does.

·2 years agoDelicate topic. My seller policy is as follows. A buyer buys and pays. After this, I always contact the buyer first to thank them for the purchase and to let them know when I will ship it. In this way, I’m already showing them that they can rest assured that I am a serious and legitimate seller. When I ship, I add a photo of the invoice with all the info, especially so the buyer can see the exact amount they paid for shipping costs (I am totally transparent in this regard). Then I tell them to let me know when it arrives and everything is correct or, if they leave positive feedback, I will understand that everything went well. I tell them that I always leave feedback after the buyer leaves feedback. Their feedback is guaranteed
I follow all these steps, doing everything right, being kind and putting a lot of care into the packaging, etc. I do everything I would like a seller to do when I buy. Kindness. Seriousness and Courtesy.
Conclusion: after making all this clear and being transparent about everything. 50% of buyers today do not leave feedback, even though they are totally satisfied with the purchase. What’s wrong with people? Where are the manners and courtesy? 10 to 15 hours a day with a phone in hand and they can’t spare 30 seconds to leave feedback? We’ve come to this: a total lack of respect.
As an individual seller, I have my own policy. Since the general eBay rule as a seller is that I can only leave positive feedback and, in addition to doing everything right, get no feedback at all, I do the following. If the buyer doesn’t leave feedback after I explain everything as I’ve detailed here, they won’t get my feedback and it will also be the last time they buy in my "store", since they will be blocked. It’s a small moral victory against the total lack of respect for the seller. Respect if you want to be respected. It’s basic. Everyone should do what they must.

·1 year agoHi,
Do you send a one-to-one message so they can cast their vote?
Best regards,
blackplanet101
OP1 year agoYes, after a few weeks is what I usually do. Never after just a few days so as not to be pestering them or in case the buyer still hasn't checked the product.

·2 years agoPeople have the Diogenes syndrome, compulsively buying and not even saying thank you, less and less manners every day and more individualistic, as if you were a robot and being polite didn’t matter or were an obligation.
It’s not that they forget, it’s that they don’t care. At the pace eBay is going, it doesn’t have long left; every day there are more options outside.

·2 years agoNobody votes, I can assure you of that too. And we as sellers can't vote negatively. In other apps like wallapop things change, eBay is on the verge of slowly disappearing. It had its years, it's not the same anymore, all decline. I've chosen to close the account, I haven't bought on eBay for years because it's absurd, you can find sellers in other apps without getting hit by eBay's excessive commission, and as a seller you're at the mercy of fraud and scams

·2 years agoI think it's because in Latin America a lot of businesses have been created that are dedicated to online shopping. They create your mailbox and make the purchase for you.
Since there are several people who don't have PayPal or a Visa/Mastercard/American Express card and prefer to buy through an intermediary.
the intermediary buys your product and that's it.
they don't care about rating the seller, because in the end they're not the ones who are going to enjoy the product, and the end consumer may want to rate the seller, but doesn't have access to an eBay account. Since that account is handled by the intermediary. That's how many online shopping businesses in Latin America work that way.
blackplanet101
OP2 years agoCould be, but not because I really have very few buyers from South America, and the not voting thing is something widespread, starting with the local buyers.
lestlat2019
·2 years agoTotally agree. I think it's completely unfair that they can leave negative feedback for the seller and not the buyer. I’ve also had negative votes from "competitors" to hurt your account....well.... As for the real account, some buyer explained to me that they could make purchases without having an Ebay account. When they told me that, it seemed horrible to me. Now I understand a lot of things. Ordinary shipments that never arrive and always to this type of users....what a coincidence. Besides, the shipping addresses, ufff, I have to correct so many if I want the packages to arrive. It’s a problem that ebay should urgently fix.

·2 years agoI have the same complaint as you and I totally agree with what you say, but if it helps, I'll tell you that some buyers can't even vote.
Like you, when someone doesn't leave me a vote I usually send a polite message asking for the same thing, and some have replied that eBay won't let them vote, because apparently they don't have a real account (don't ask me what that means). Something like a guest pseudonym.
But I suppose those will be the fewest.
And I’ll add a detail to your complaint.... I also want the ability to vote NEGATIVE for a buyer. I think it's shameful that eBay doesn't allow this. I've come across quite a lot of fraudulent buyers, or ones who cause problems without justification, and I haven't been able to give a negative vote. How can this happen? Doesn’t the community have the right to know that this is a problematic buyer?
eBay's tricks to attract customers.
blackplanet101
OP2 years agoThe guest account thing has been around for a few years now. As a seller, you have to send a copy of your ID, a bank account in the same name and, if necessary, a card in case they have to take the money out of you by force, but as for the buyer, since it isn’t needed, they don’t even need to have an account; we prevent that, though, from voting positively for the seller, just in case they might misuse that function...
And the fact that you can’t vote negatively on the buyer, well, that pretty much says it all really.

·2 years agoI understand the discomfort of small businesses..... but I don't know how you expect them to give you something for free...... if you want something, give something and you will get something..... if I buy, I buy, I don't write....
blackplanet101
OP2 years agoI just don't understand what you mean, what do you mean by giving us something for free? Do we have to offer money in exchange for the rating? Ratings are useful to both the seller and the buyer; it's a matter of rewarding the best and sanctioning those who cheat, and that benefits all the honest users of the platform. The thing is, you really don't even know what you're saying, but you definitely perfectly represent the prototype of buyer who abounds around here these days.

·2 years agoHi, I don't think he'll reply to you, without a doubt as he doesn't write says, because he's very busy buying, buying, not writing. Indeed he has the same number of purchases as I do.🤔

OP2 years agoHe probably works for Ebay, directly or indirectly, because he also perfectly describes the company's policy, meaning a total nonsensical **bleep**

·3 years agoYou may not believe it, but I even come across sellers with a good reputation; they send you everything right, you leave them a rating, and they don’t return the feedback. Honestly, people are less and less decent and polite every day.
blackplanet101
OP3 years agoYeah, I do believe it, I also suffer what you mention as a buyer but the harm is not comparable. A buyer with fewer positive ratings than they deserve suffers a minor harm, even more so considering that they can no longer receive negative ratings, but a seller who doesn’t receive positive ratings, well, it doesn’t even need explaining.
By the way, in my first message I said that I voted 1 out of every 4 or 5, now I’d rather say 1 out of every 10.
alb_p
·3 years agoI think the same as you. Before, almost all buyers left feedback, but now it’s just the opposite, hardly anyone leaves feedback and, as you say, it gives off a sense of inactivity and unreliability in the profile.
A good solution would be the one you mention: if there were no incidents, an automatic positive review after a while, something other platforms do.
I still keep coming across buyers with incomplete or incorrect shipping details, users from the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla without the DNI number in the shipping details, users with comments on almost all their ratings because they’re out there scamming sellers, etc.
There are many things to improve on eBay, but first and foremost, eBay needs to do its part, but if it’s not willing to, or it doesn’t listen to users, or it doesn’t try to improve...

·3 years agoEbay unfortunately isn’t going to do anything to help; for about three years now they’ve been focused on whether they make money from buyers or from sellers... I’ve been here several years, about 7, and I don’t understand Ebay’s drift, especially while losing more and more sales... the European market is tiny; at least I keep going with foreign markets (USA and Australia mainly), and that’s normal, they don’t spend a dime on advertising and nobody buys on a platform they don’t know or that they associate with second-hand junk... young people don’t even know Ebay exists.
The changes that have been made in recent years are lamentable, combined purchases have to be managed through automated policies, and they are absolutely USELESS... maybe Ebay doesn’t know that shipping costs depend on the weight of the package, not on whether it has more or fewer items. Charging commission on shipping costs only makes them more expensive and people, logically, hold back, and on Ebay they tell you to offer free shipping... let them pay it, because the folks at Correos haven’t heard that shipping has to be free XDDDD, frustrated and burned out with the platform, with that obsession with wanting to look like other platforms that Ebay has nothing to do with, they’re diluting the best aspects of the platform....
